This week we have …October 21, 2016
We have been looking at shapes and using them to make different pictures. The children created using a variety of shapes, cutting different ones out and sticking them down to make pictures. We have also made “dinner” using shapes, the children selected shapes and spoke about what food they could represent, this led on to lots of discussion about favourite food.
We have also been looking at different occupations, the children have enjoyed trying on a variety of hats and taking part in different role play representing different jobs: shop keeper, doctor, vet, fireman…
We have had the puppet show and I have been watching lots of puppet shows put on by the children! These usually call for a lot of audience participation.
We have been keeping active by moving to different action songs and ring songs, the hokey cokey seems to be a firm favourite, doing that at 8.45 in the morning certainly wakes us up!
Beebot has new batteries so the children have enjoyed the challenge of directing him around a race track, making sure he doesn’t bang in to anything or go the wrong way.
The children have also enjoyed making playdough, they helped to mix and add ingredients and then used the play dough to make faces, putting on different features.
Today at snack I made all the children’s fruit look like a face, however when I asked them what is was i got these answers ” a lion” ” a monster” and “an elephant” so I obviously need to work on my face making skills!!
We have been talking lots about ourselves and encouraging the children to talk about them and their families and others close to them. This always leads to lots of discussion, comparisons and funny stories. It’s great hearing the children using words to describe themselves and their abilities and displaying a sense of pride in themselves.
Next week is half term, so nursery will be a fair bit quieter as lots of children will be off. We’re hoping to be able to go on plenty of walks and adventures.
I am on annual leave on Monday and Tuesday but will be back in nursery on Wednesday.
If anyone would like to take Dennis the Dinosaur home then please let me know, if not we will hand him out.
Thanks again for all your input in to Tapestry, it’s great being able to talk to the children about things they have been up to and the children are also enjoying taking their own photos to add to it and are starting to ask us to “put it on the ipad” (brand conscious even at a young age!!) so Mummy and Daddy can see.
Have a lovely weekend and if you’re not with us next week then enjoy your break
This week we have …October 14, 2016
It’s Friday again already!
We’ve had another great week at nursery.
Here’s a bit about what we’ve been up to…
The children have been busy choosing what designs to use for the “chilled chestnut” Christmas card design. We have printed off a selection of hand and foot print ideas and the children have selected what they would like to do. They are looking very good and we’re excited to see the finished designs!
The older children have been speaking about emotions and what makes them happy, sad, cross and excited. Using a mirror they have been making the different faces and enjoyed taking “selfies” of these on the tablets. They have also drawn some expressions which are around our mirror.
We have also had lots of fun with junk modelling: we have been making aliens, robots, princesses and bags. We have used lots of sticky tape and lots of boxes, so if you have any recycling at home please bring it in
On Thursday the children had lots of fun with Hannah and Giggles from Boogie Beat, they sang lots of action songs, read a story and played with the parachute. The children continue to love these sessions and remain very engaged throughout.
We have also been looking a little at the time. The children have been using our clock puzzle, telling the time books and our movable clock. We have been talking about the different times when we do things, such as lunch is at 12.
The children have been looking at shape, amount and colour and to support this we decorated biscuits with various sweets and icing. This activity went down very well and a few sweets may have been eaten in the process!
Just a reminder that the photographer is in on Tuesday from 8am- approx 10am. You are welcome to bring your children in a change of clothes for the photos and if your child doesn’t attend that day and you would like their photo taken then please come along. Siblings are also welcome
We have had a few children off this week with sickness and diarrhea, there seems to be a bug going around. We have scrubbed everything at nursery and please ask that if your child has any symptoms that you keep them off until they are clear for 48 hours. This should help to stop the spread of the bug.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to hearing all about the children’s adventures.
Thanks for reading.
This week we have…October 7, 2016
We hope you’ve had a lovely week, we can’t believe we are in October already!
Thank you to all those parents who have taken the time to look at Tapestry, add your own comments and your observations. We love seeing these and it really helps us with knowing what the children have been up to and with building up communication between us and yourselves. We have had some really positive feedback about Tapestry and are really pleased with how it is going.
So what have we been up to this week?
We had a lovely Autumn walk through the woods to feed the ducks. The children noticed that it was quite cold and that there weren’t many swans. We counted that there were two so spoke about how perhaps the others had flown to somewhere a bit warmer. Several of the children thought the ducks didn’t need the bread and decided to eat it themselves!
A few of the children have had jabs this week so we have had the doctors kit out. They have enjoyed giving us jabs, bandaging various limbs and making us feel much better. We have been very “poorly sick”, so it’s lucky we have so many good doctors and nurses at nursery!
We have been looking at letter recognition by playing various games. The children enjoyed throwing bean bags on to certain letters and finding letters that they recognised. We have also had the letter cubes out and have been matching them to letters on a big mat. The children also enjoyed sponge painting with letter sponges and seeing if they could form any words or make patterns. Some of the children decided to fold their paper to see what happens and were pleased when it printed on each side. In small group time we have been listening to the Jolly Phonics songs and copying the actions, as well as forming the letters in the air with our fingers. You can find the Jolly phonics on YouTube, it’s something the children really enjoy doing.
The children have also been exploring different resources to do with more and less. using the compare bears to see which colour they have most of, building towers and noticing which has the most bricks etc. A great activity is to build a towers with your child and then ask them to tell you which has the most just by looking, once they have selected which one, then count them together to check. They find it even more fun if you pick the wrong one and they’ve selected the correct one!
We have been adding different characters to our dolls house, the other day it had knights and dinosaurs. It has also had different family members and various animals. We have been setting these up and then leaving the children to play with as they wish, adding in different characters if they want to. We have had some great storylines and some brilliant imagination has been used.
With the younger children we have continued to play lots of cooperative games such as rolling balls back and forth and other turn taking games. We have also been doing various mark making from crayons, to paint to aquadraw. Most of the children decide they need to taste everything before using it of course!
On Tuesday the children enjoyed looking at my scan picture and there now seems to be a bit of relation with most children that there really is a baby in my tummy! We have had lots of questions and the children are enjoying guessing whether it will be a boy or a girl.I have also had some great suggestions for names!!
I have just realised that I have not mentioned a new lady who has started with us. her name is Michelle and she covers lunches for us on a Thursday and Friday, term time. She used to be a care assistant in the army and has two daughters, aged 5 and 8. the children are enjoying getting to know Michelle and visa versa.
Thank you to all who have replied about the upcoming events at nursery, it’s going to a full, busy and exciting time here.
I’m hoping to send Dennis the dinosaur home with a child this weekend as he is getting very fed up at nursery.
Have a lovely weekend and don’t forget to add photos to Tapestry or email them across to e for our board.
